The law class I have most enjoyed here… Civil Procedure. The professor’s adherence to the Socratic method intensified the dry subject matter. The process of figuring out the rules was like trying to put together a puzzle with the case materials that were assigned. The challenge and spontaneity of the class made it the most enjoyable.
When I have free time, I like to… do anything to keep myself from thinking I should be studying.
One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was… that the college offers many opportunities to study abroad. The school’s programs range from 1-2 weeks long to a whole semester long program. The varying program lengths give students the freedom to go abroad as long or as short as they can fit into their schedules. It further provides opportunities for those who never though they had time to study abroad in law school.
DePaul's College of Law is unique compared to other schools I considered attending because... the atmosphere is inviting. I feel comfortable at DePaul, which is conducive to a good learning experience. I am more confident to raise my hand and try to participate in class knowing that my classmates will support my participation rather than criticize my answers.
The instructors at DePaul's College of Law are... extremely helpful, available and affable. The professors I have had thus far have always been available to answer questions, give advice, or simply to lend an ear in times of stress. The professors at DePaul are willing to go beyond their job as an educator to help their students succeed. When I inquired, my professors taught me deeper intricacies of the law, gave me career advice, edited cover letters and even helped me with real life legal questions.
My greatest success has been… earning an A in Legal Writing. The process of legal writing is unlike any writing I did in the past. It is formulaic and extremely time consuming. It felt good to see my hard work pay off and demonstrate that I have a deep understanding of legal writing that will be the foundation to my legal career.
The one thing I’d like to say to students considering DePaul College of Law is… find a balance. Law school is challenging, but in order to not burn out you have to balance the hard work with taking time for yourself. DePaul’s friendly atmosphere provides an opportunity to make friends, de-stress between classes, or vent about the millions of pages of reading a professor assigned. Striking the perfect balance is not easy, but once you figure it out, law school is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
