Interim Vice President for Student Affairs
Cindy Summers became interim vice president for Student Affairs in August 2012. Since joining DePaul in 1983, she has served as dean of Students and director of Student Life, coordinating the areas of Student Activities, Student Centers, Food Services and Residence Life. She was most recently associate vice president for Student Advocacy and Community Relations.
In that role, Summers focused on advocating for students through the offices of the Dean of Students, University Counseling Services, Adult Student Services, Veteran Students, International Student Services and services for Students with Disabilities. Summers also serves as the Student Affairs internal liaison to the offices of the General Counsel, University Compliance, Public Relations and Communications and the Crisis Management Team.
In her work with the Chicago community, Summers served as the Student Affairs liaison to the Chicago Police Department and the Neighborhood Advisory Council. She worked to strengthen partnerships to enhance the campus environment through facilitating monthly connections between the student community and DePaul’s Chicago partners.
Prior to DePaul, Summers was the director of Student Counseling at Barat College, and she worked in Residence Life at Illinois State University. She holds a Master’s degree in counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in communication/education from Illinois State University.
Summers is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education, the American College Health Association and a charter member of the Association for Student Judicial Affairs.
