Studies incorporate a diversity of philosophical approaches: hermaneutic, historical, ethical, analytic. Courses reflect particular strengths in ethics, applied ethics, and 19th- and 20th-century philosophic thought. Major and minor programs develop analytical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. Studies are enhanced by Philosophy Forum, the philosophy student club.
Professors are committed to both teaching and research. They are readily accessible to students. The Department is recognized internationally for its contributions to continental philosophy.
As an international intellectual center, Chicago is regularly visited by world-renowned philosophers. Lecturers and symposiums on issues ranging from ethics to architecture, from the top thinkers in those fields, are available to DePaul students on a regular basis.
