The School for New Learning and DePaul's Department of Nursing offer a new way for registered nurses to complete their undergraduate degrees. The BS in Nursing is a degree completion program for registered nurses emphasizing integrated learning in the liberal arts and sciences that serves as a foundation for upper division professional competencies and knowledge in nursing science. The program features greater flexibility for the adult learner to achieve learning outcomes including on-line course options. The joint degree is similar to the SNL Bachelor of Arts in its philosophy, policy, and procedures with the following exceptions:

•    The Focus Area consists of courses designed and offered by the Nursing Department (ND). Courses prepare registered nurses for professional practice and leadership roles in health promotion and illness care, collaboration with others to meet present and future health needs of society, community service to vulnerable populations, and continuing academic and clinical education in nursing at the graduate level. The Professional Advisor in the student's Academic Committee is a ND faculty member assigned by the department.

•    Two separate colleges award the degree. The School for New Learning (SNL) and the College of Liberal Arts & Science jointly award the BS with a major in nursing.

•    Laboratory components in biology and chemistry are required in Scientific World and will necessarily consist of transfer credit.
