If you are a veteran of U.S. military service or an eligible dependent under the Dependents Educational Assistance Program (see below), you may be eligible for Veteran's Affairs (VA) Educational Benefits.  For more detailed information, visit the Veteran's Affairs website, or contact the Office of Financial Aid.

The Office of Financial Aid coordinates processing for the  following Veteran's Affairs educational benefit programs:

• The Montgomery GI Bill for those who enlisted after July 1, 1985
• The Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 1606), part of the GI Bill effective July 1, 1985
• The Dependents Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 35) for children of deceased or disabled veterans
• The Vocational Rehabilitation Program (Chapter 31) for disabled veterans approved by the VA for study at DePaul
• The Post 9/11 GI Bill (effective August 1, 2009 – see below)

The New GI Bill

The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008/Post 09/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) is effective August 1, 2009.  The Department of Veteran's Affairs is now accepting and processing applications for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.  This program provides comprehensive educational benefits to veterans who served after September 11, 2001. Some of its features include:

• Tuition and fees charged, not to exceed the most expensive in-state undergraduate tuition at a public institution of higher education (paid to school)
• Monthly housing allowance equal to the basic allowance for housing
• Yearly books and supplies stipend of up to $1,000 per year

To apply for the Post-09/11 GI Bill, or to gain more information, please visit the Veteran's Affairs website.  If you have already applied for the Post-09/11 GI Bill with Veteran's Affairs, please also complete our Veteran's Affairs Educational Benefits Form and submit it with a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility and a copy of your DD214 to the Office of Financial Aid.

Please note: The Illinois Veteran's Grant (IVG) is not available for students at DePaul. Currently it is only available to students attending Illinois public universities.
If you're not sure what your benefits are, contact the Veteran's Affairs office in St. Louis at (888) 442-4551; follow the instructions for a rotary phone and you'll be connected with a counselor. You also may request information through the Veteran's Affairs website.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Veteran's Affairs benefit application processes vary from program to program.  The best place to obtain Veteran's Affairs educational benefit application forms is at the Veteran's Affairs website. Once you have completed your Veteran's Affairs educational benefit application forms, Veteran's Affairs will send you a Certificate of Eligibility  for  your Veteran's Affairs educational program.  You should submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility and a copy of your DD214 along with our Veteran's Affairs Educational Benefits Form to the Office of Financial Aid.
