EDUCATION MAJORS
Attention Education Majors: Please note that this information is preliminary and we will pass along more information as it becomes available. Information about the TEACH grant awarding process at DePaul will be available on this web site after July 1, 2008.
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH Grant) is a new federal grant program, announced for the 2008-2009 academic year, for students who plan to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. It is anticipated that this grant will be available to qualified Education majors at DePaul.
The TEACH grant provides up to $4,000 per year. In exchange for receiving the TEACH Grant, you must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students. As a recipient of a TEACH Grant, you must teach for at least four academic years within eight calendar years of completing your program of study for which you received a TEACH Grant.
IMPORTANT: If you fail to complete this service obligation, all TEACH Grant funds that you received will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. You must then repay this loan to the U.S. Department of Education. You will be charged interest from the date the grant(s) was disbursed.
For more information you should visit the TEACH grant web site.
Funds will be applied to your tuition account after the close of business on this date. You will see the credit(s) reflected on your tuition account on the next business day.
