About the School for New Learning and Continuing and Professional Education

School for New Learning
The School for New Learning provides a distinctive approach to learning for adults. You'll design your own customized program that builds upon the abilities and experience you already possess. This program allows you to add new knowledge and develop innovative skills to help you achieve your personalized career goals.

Continuing and Professional Education
Through DePaul's Office of Continuing and Professional Education (OCPE) you may benefit from high-quality certificate programs for adult learners seeking new skills for professional development and certification for career advancement. The Institute for Professional Development -- a unit of the College of Computing and Digital Media -- offers certificate programs in computer science. These programs are geared towards working professionals in information technology who would like to update a skill and/or seeking career advancement.


Instructions by Student Type

Note: Students educated outside the United States or with international credit, and students with F1 or J1 visa status should apply for admission a minimum of two months before the beginning of the desired quarter.

Adult Student Applicants
Adult students (age 24 and above) applying for baccalaureate admission should complete and submit the application, the $25 application fee and official transcripts from every college/university attended. Adult students who have never enrolled in college or who have completed fewer than 12 transferable semester (16 quarter) hours will be required to submit an official high school transcript or official GED score report. Adult students who have completed 12 semester hours (16 quarter) of transferable credit or more must submit official transcripts from all institutions attended. If you are currently in college, please indicate (on a separate sheet of paper) what courses you will be enrolled in for the current term or for a future term. (Example: Eng 101/English Composition I - 3 semester hours.)

School for New Learning (SNL) Applicants
Students (age 24 and above) applying for admission to DePaul's School for New Learning (SNL) should complete the application. Prospective SNL students may be approved to register for a Learning Assessment Seminar and/or for classes prior to full baccalaureate admission. Upon successful completion of the Learning Assessment Seminar, students may apply for full baccalaureate admission to SNL and will be required to submit official transcripts from all prior colleges/universities attended. Transfer Student Applicants
Transfer students (under age 24) who currently attend another college/university and plan to complete a baccalaureate degree at DePaul should complete and submit this application, the $40 application fee ($25 if you apply online) and official transcripts from every college/university attended. Students who have earned fewer than 30 semester (44 quarter) hours of transferable college work at the time of application submission must additionally provide an official high school transcript and an ACT/SAT score report. If you are currently in college, please indicate (on a separate sheet of paper) what courses you will be enrolled in for the current term or for a future term. (Example: Eng 101/English Composition I - 3 semester hours.)

Dual Admission to CDM and Community Colleges
The College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) has entered into agreements with community colleges allowing admission to both DePaul and the community college simultaneously. Students attend the community college for the first part of their college career with the intention of completing the bachelor's degree at DePaul CDM, in one of CDM's 14 bachelor degree progams. Being admitted in a Dual Admission status allows students to make the move to DePaul CDM very smoothly when the time comes. Read about Dual Admission.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall (September)- August 1
  • Winter (January)- November 1
  • Spring (March/April)- March 1
  • Summer (June)- May 1

Students who apply for admission after the deadline will have their application considered on a space available basis.


Application Fee

The application fee for transfer students is $25 if you apply online, or $40 (check or money order) if you submit a paper application. This application fee is non-refundable. Make your check payable to DePaul University. Send in your application fee, and be sure to write your name and social security number on the check. When it arrives at DePaul, we will match it up with your application. You should send in your application fee as soon as possible after submitting the application.
