Master of Music
Major
Programs of study leading to the Master of Music degree in performance, composition, jazz performance, track, jazz studies composition track, and music education.
Admission
Admission to the graduate program is based on evidence of ability to be successful in graduate study. Other criteria are completion of the bachelor of music, or equivalent, from an accredited institution, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (A=4.0), three letters of recommendation, and demonstration of special competence in the major area, including an audition. No GRE is required. Voice applicants must demonstrate competence in Italian, French, and German diction by audition.
Tuition and Fees
$580.00 per credit hour, a $40 application fee.
Course Requirements
A minimum of 44 quarter hours of graduate credit is required for the Master of Music degree. This total is divided between the core studies (required of all masters degree studentss), and the specialization requirements which related uniquely to the area of specialization. Certificate in Performance
Admission
The purpose of the Certificate in Performance program is to provide an intensive post-masters degree performance experience for a small number of highly accomplished performers. Entry into the program is based on evidence of ability to be successful in post-graduate level performance study. Other criteria include completion of a master of music in performance degree, or equivalent, from an accredited instititution, three letters of recommendation, and an entrance audition. Voice applicants must demonstrate competence in Italian, French, and German diction by audition and written IPA exam.
Tuition and Fees
$580.00 per credit hour, a $40 application fee.
Course Requirements
There are two elements in the program. First, applied music (private instruction), and second, related studies. Related study will normally consist of participation in the appropriate performing organization(s), and additional academic classes in a supportive area. Course requirements for the Certificate in Performance are:
- Applied Music (24 credit hours)
- Related Study (12 credit hours)
- Recital

Music Education Teacher Certification Program
Teacher Certification Program
DePaul offers a program in which students can earn Illinois State K-12 music teacher certification. Applicants need to have earned a bachelors degree in music from an accredited institution, pass an audition on their major instrument, and interview with the music education department chair. The teacher certification program consists of courses in music education, education, and liberal studies, which fulfill the Illinois state teacher certification requirements. Although the length of the program may vary slightly, students generally can complete the program in four quarters, with an additional summer quarter if needed.
