I chose my major because... it allows me to pursue my interest in gaming, while developing computer science skills and critical thinking abilities.

My favorite thing to do on campus is... to play in the DeFrag gaming lab where they have all the latest games available to check out. It is really cool because it kills time between classes and it saves me the money of purchasing the games.

I decided to attend DePaul because... DePaul’s reputation is strong in the southwestern and southern United States. After receiving a letter inviting me to attend DePaul, I applied knowing that I could get a quality education while pursuing a degree that I am truly interested in.

The learning environment here at DePaul is... awesome! All my computer science classes are recorded and kept on the internet for later viewing. This allows me to do my homework while watching a part of the lecture that I may have missed. Another aspect that makes learning easy is the well-balanced student/teacher ratio. This makes it very easy to contact my teachers and attend their office hours so I may ask them a question or get help with a concept that I do not fully understand.

My favorite professor at DePaul is... Jason Hopkins, a 3-D animation professor. He is willing to stay and help his students (even after a long, taxing night class) and he is just an all around cool guy. I am sure you will think the same if you ever have him for a class.

My favorite thing to do off campus is... in the summer, the beach is the place to be. During the winter I enjoy going to the local pool hall to challenge a couple of folks to a game.

One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was... I didn’t know that the College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) invested so many resources into their program. It is very refreshing and keeps student morale very high.

Here, the diversity of students, faculty and staff... blends together quite nicely. DePaul is in the middle of a globally known city recognized for its many cultures. Along with the general population of Chicago, the students, faculty and staff reflect the positive attributes of the diversity that surrounds the campus.

The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is... there is something for everyone. My friends that went to schools in small college towns are limited to the events that their college sponsors. However, if DePaul’s events do not serve your interests one weekend, it takes a mere search of Metromix Chicago to find out all the events that are happening in the city.

DePaul's innovative CDM programs appeal to me because... of its especially innovative use of teaching techniques, software availability and use of technology. Their teaching techniques are extremely flexible and they often mold to the class itself. For example, students in one of my classes were extremely gifted as a whole, therefore, we were able to learn fast. Additionally, one of the most innovative things DePaul has implemented is the recording of the classes. In class, I am able to listen to the content and idea the professor is trying to convey rather than frantically taking notes. If a difficult topic is discussed, I merely jot the time the professor talked about it so I can navigate and analyze it at a later time.

My greatest success as a student... is pursuing a challenging major and minor, maintaining a 3.5 GPA while simultaneously qualifying for the Big East Track and Field Championships. DePaul is a Big East school and athletics are extremely competitive. The main reason for my success is time management and dedication. However, even dedication is not enough. I owe a lot to the CDM professors because they are helpful, intelligent and intuitive.

The one thing I’d like to say to students considering DePaul... Give it a try. A good education, great city, superb facilities, promising opportunities and a campus population that gets along extremely well is a combination for success.
