Dream job: Working for a news outlet’s website and/or covering the Chicago Fire (or more generally, being a soccer journalist).

As online editor of The DePaulia: My responsibilities deal primarily with running and maintaining all content on DePauliaOnline.com. This includes posting content from the The DePaulia, rewriting headlines so that they’re optimized for search engines, resizing photos and inserting hyperlinks. I also oversee any original content for the website, such as our blogs and multimedia pieces, and our online-only Weekend Edition.

Challenges we face at The DePaulia include: What most journalists and news outlets face - things like meeting deadlines, accuracy, etc. An additional challenge we face is managing our time. In addition to working on The DePaulia, we have classes, jobs and internships to work around. Working on the newspaper takes up most of Thursday and all of Friday, sometimes spilling over into the weekend. The DePaulia has a relatively small staff, and we put a lot of work into the paper.

The best part of working on The DePaulia is: The experience it has given me. I've learned what it’s like to write on deadline, manage content or a specific section, and I've learned how to use industry-standard software like Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop. I’ve interned with Time Out Chicago and have worked as a freelance writer for the RedEye because of the experience I have working on The DePaulia.

I chose to major in Journalism because: I like telling other people’s stories and informing the public.
