I chose my major because… I have always loved music, and I love to play percussion.

My favorite thing to do on campus is… to go swimming at the Ray with my friends, and attend the various music performances offered at the School of Music. From student and faculty recitals to orchestra concerts, there is always great music to be heard at DePaul.

I decided to attend DePaul because… of the quality of the teachers. The teachers at the School of Music have years of experience in their respective fields, and they have a wealth of knowledge and resources to offer. The teachers care about the students, and they are interested in helping students succeed.

When I have free time, I like to… explore Chicago with my friends. Throughout the city, there are many unique and fun things to do. Whether it’s attending a concert at Symphony Center, enjoying live improv at Comedy Sports, or taking a jog on the Lake Shore path, there is always something new and fun to experience in Chicago.

The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is… the wealth of resources that Chicago has to offer. The music scene in Chicago is great, and every day there are performances ranging from classical, to jazz, to world music. As a music student, it is great to be able to spend time in a practice room working on something, and then go out into the city and actually experiencing it.

The benefits of attending an urban university when it comes to performance are… that it provides not only countless opportunities to experience music and various styles of music; it also provides more opportunities to perform. As a student, it is great being able to attend the concerts and performances offered by students and faculty at DePaul, while also being able to experience the performances of professional groups such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera. As a performer, it is great playing in the various ensembles offered at DePaul, while also being able to play gigs around Chicago. The opportunities to experience music are endless.

After graduation, I plan on… entering the audition circuit in hopes of winning an orchestral job. I am also planning on attending grad school.

The one thing I’d like to say to students considering DePaul… is to come and visit! Meet with the professors, take a lesson, sit in on a class or rehearsal and talk with the current students. The best way of getting to know something is to experience it first-hand.
