I chose my majors because… I wanted to do something I love, so I chose to pursue studying the clarinet and the French language.

My favorite thing to do on campus is… go to the gym. I love working out at the Ray; the facilities are really nice and my membership is free since I’m an undergrad.

The class I most enjoyed here was… States, Markets and Societies (HON 201) with Clement Adibe. I’ve never been so tempted to change my major! I loved the class because it made me think critically and comprehensively about the problems of globalization and poverty.

When I have free time, I like to… eat and go out with friends. There are so many great restaurants, and we like to see performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera.

One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was… how unusual it was in terms of it being a Catholic university. The mission and values of its Catholic foundation can be seen in the way the university interacts with the Chicago community, yet academics are never compromised. You don’t ever feel like religion is being forced upon you.

The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is… summertime! I grew up around Chicago, but there’s nothing like living in the city over the summer, going to the Lincoln Park Zoo, enjoying the lake, going to the farmer’s market and spending time outside.

DePaul University’s School of Music appealed to me as a student and as a musician because… the location of the school is ideal for taking advantage of the city—there is always something to do! Also, the faculty members are often great performing musicians. Everyone - students, staff and faculty - is enthusiastic about learning and sharing music.

The benefits of attending an urban university when it comes to performance are… of course, the School of Music puts on hundreds of concerts per year at the Concert Hall, Recital Hall and the Merle Reskin Theatre. Plus, the jazz ensembles perform at the Student Center and off campus at the Jazz Showcase. For students who want to include listening to live performances in their education, this urban environment can’t be beat.

After graduation, I plan to… study clarinet in France. What else considering my majors?
