I chose to study law because... I realized early on in my life that I want to continually service my community. I have a commitment to help those less fortunate, and I believe the best outlet to help others is through the legal field. Whether you want to make an impact in civil rights, represent the innocent that are wrongfully charged, or prevent abuse and fraud in everyday transactions, studying law allows you to make a difference in this world.

I decided to attend DePaul's College of Law because... it best fit my personal statement. I truly believe in order to be successful you must embrace change. I saw that the law school strives to change for the better everyday. I wanted to attend a law school that harbors success and positive change and there was no better match than DePaul's College of Law.

The learning environment here at DePaul is... rigorous and intense at first, but once you get into your groove it’s all smooth sailing from then on. You learn to study, to comprehend, and to write in a completely new way when starting law school. It does get easier as you go along. Word of advice: it helps to find classmates and professors that challenge you to work hard because it pushes you to do so.

When I have free time, I like to... realize I have no free time and get back to studying.

Here, the diversity of students, faculty and staff... is open and welcoming. Coming from the largest university in the country for undergrad, it was an easy transition to come to DePaul because of its diverse campus. There is a strong incentive to attend a diverse law school such as DePaul because it teaches you to see many different perspectives of the legal field.

For College of Law students, the opportunity to attend school in the city of Chicago is... invaluable educationally, socially and professionally. Coming to Chicago, I found that an opportunity is around every corner.

DePaul's College of Law is unique compared to other schools I considered attending because... the law school doesn’t believe in complacency and strives to better itself and become a better place to study law. The College of Law constantly works to improve its rankings, and to better its centers and institutes. For me, there was no doubt that I wanted to be a part of that.

The instructors at DePaul's College of Law are... like professional parents. They will make you work hard, but are there when you need them and care about you enough to make sure you reach your potential. The professors at DePaul believe in an open door policy to their offices and will spend as much time as it takes to help you become a better lawyer. Take the time to get to know them, because they are a valuable resource inside and outside the classroom.

The one thing I’d like to say to students considering the College of Law... is to be open minded about what you want out of your law school experience. It’s important to be able to see yourself comfortable and with the desire to be at the school because it is where you will spend the majority of the next three years of your life. If you’re looking for a school that embraces diversity, challenges you in the legal field and creates lasting relationships beyond your years in law school, then DePaul is the place for you.
