My favorite thing to do on campus is… attending the many student showcases, such as DePaul Idol, an “American Idol” like contest featuring a wide variety of student talent. Basketball games are always a blast, and of course the School of Music's concerts and operas.
I decided to attend DePaul because… of its amazing reputation. Before attending DePaul, I heard nothing but great reviews about the school and its music program It was an easy decision to make, and so far this school is living up to all of my expectations.
The learning environment here at DePaul is… very comfortable. All of my professors have been extremely motivating, and always create a positive learning environment.
When I have free time, I like to... make my way over to Lincoln Park Zoo and the beach. And when I’m feeling ambitious I hit the Ray Meyer Fitness & Recreation Center, DePaul’s state-of-the-art fitness center!
My favorite thing to do off campus is… jumping on the “L” to the Loop and experiencing all that this city has to offer. From attending an amazing Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert or Lyric Opera performance, to going to The Second City and having a great laugh!
Here, the diversity of students, faculty and staff… has opened my eyes to the real world. Coming from a smaller, non-diverse, conservative suburb, it was nice to experience the variety of cultures and ethnicities this world — and city — has to offer.
The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is… that it is an amazing city! So much culture, education, food, shopping and other activities that come with the season, not to mention the beach!
The appeal of the DePaul School of Music is that… it has been at the top of my list ever since I started planning for college. Our School of Music has one of the best faculty line-ups in the country. To be surrounded by world-class musicians all day, everyday, provides the most inspiring environment a music school could offer.
The benefit of attending an urban university when it comes to performance is… the best option for aspiring musicians. The opportunities throughout Chicago are endless, from participating in a church choir to playing with an unaffiliated community orchestra, not to mention our concerts on-campus. Both performing and watching the wonderful concerts that The School of Music has to offer are always enjoyable. We have programs showcasing our fantastic orchestras and bands, special recitals provided by both faculty and students, not to mention our choirs.
The best thing about DePaul is… the students. So far I have met the most eclectic and remarkable people. I am happy to call them my friends.
After graduation, I plan to… attend grad school. There is always more to learn and I want to learn as much as possible in the music field.
The one thing I’d like to say to students considering DePaul… is to come and see for yourself the wonderful atmosphere DePaul has to offer to a student. Also, visit Chicago to get a feel for this great city, where there is always something to do and so much to experience and to see.
