I chose my major because… I grew up outdoors and have always had a fascination with nature. Also, with the increase in climate change, I felt like I could make a difference toward the future with a degree in Environmental Science.
My favorite thing to do on campus is… hang out in McGowan South and talk with other students about life, classes and plans for the weekend.
I decided to attend DePaul because… they have an excellent Environmental Science program.
The learning environment here at DePaul is… better than any college I’ve attended. The smaller class sizes and the personal level you can experience with your professors make the learning experience much more fulfilling.
My favorite professor at DePaul is… I can’t say that I have one favorite professor, but rather, every professor from the Environmental Science department. They all bring a different aspect of environmental science to the table and I have learned so much from all of them.
When I have free time, I like to… play guitar and watch my Netflix movies.
One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was… that there are way more females then males.
The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is… living in this awesome city.
At DePaul, service learning is… available for every subject and also range from introduction classes to more advanced classes.
Studying as an Environmental Sciences major appealed to me because… I was drawn to environmental science for the fact that I love studying nature and the way all organisms of life function within an ecosystem. I want to be able to teach others in the future that we are part of this global ecosystem and every action we do has an environmental consequence somewhere around the world. We need to rethink the way we live and how much of an impact we have on planet Earth on a daily basis. It’s much more than one would think.
The new McGowan South Sciences building is… an awesome, state-of-the-art science building. The teaching labs and research labs provide excellent learning environments for students. I frequent the coffee shop on the first floor and occasionally purchase delicious delicacies. My only complaint is that they could have picked more comfortable seats for the upstairs atrium rather than chairs that have a more contemporary style.
After graduation, I plan to… move back to the east coast and attend grad school for hydrology.
The one thing I’d like to say to students considering DePaul… if you want to learn, DePaul has an excellent faculty that is eager to teach you everything they know.
