I chose to study law because... I needed some challenge in my life. I graduated with a film degree from a college in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley. My career options were severely limited, and what was available was not intellectually stimulating at all. I felt like I really missed that intellectual stimulation.
I decided to attend DePaul College of Law because... it was convenient and has a good reputation. I was already working in the city, and after visiting DePaul, I just felt like it was a good fit for what I was looking for.
The learning environment here at DePaul is... very friendly. I’m not even remotely threatened by the 'competition' for grades. It’s a great place to study.
The law class I have most enjoyed here... I’ve only had six thus far, and none of them really set my world on fire, but that’s to be expected in the first year. I guess contracts, but mostly because our professor was great.
When I have free time, I like to... see the people I don’t get to see during my time in class. I think maintaining a school life and an outside-of-school life is crucial to having a well-balanced lifestyle, which is in turn crucial to not going completely mental when school starts to get stressful.
For College of Law students, the opportunity to attend school in the city of Chicago is... great! I can’t even imagine going to law school in the middle of the country. Law is, to me, a very urban profession and it makes sense to study it in an urban setting.
DePaul's College of Law is unique compared to other schools I considered attending because... they accepted me. Just kidding! It’s unique because the competition does not seem competitive. People here are less worried about their ranking and screwing over their classmates then they are with making friends and connections and just doing well by yourself.
The instructors at DePaul's College of Law are... overall, very good. I’ve only had four instructors at this point, so I can’t talk from a great well of experience, but the ones I’ve had, if not necessarily the best lecturers, have all been intelligent, knowledgeable about the material and very receptive to students, both in and out of class.
My greatest success has been... I guess that CALI Award, but I have to tell you, I think it was a fluke. LARC II was no picnic.
After graduation, I plan to... buy a yacht made of solid gold. Eventually.
The one thing I’d like to say to students considering the College of Law... Don’t let rankings be the only thing you consider. Talk to some of the students and faculty. Get a good feel for what student life is like. What good is a slightly higher national ranking when you hate your environment and just want out every day? Your attitude towards your school environment will most definitely reflect in what you take away from school.
