The learning environment here at DePaul is... friendly. I like how my professors are always happy to answer my questions, and the atmosphere between students is encouraging.
My favorite professor at DePaul is... my applied piano teacher. Dr. Eteri Andjaparidze guides me with her immense experiences and knowledge in how to become better in both my musical and personal life. I love my weekly lesson with her because I feel like I am well fed with knowledge and quality artistry.
When I have free time, I like to... take advantage of the abundant resources that Chicago provides. I love the museum campus, especially the free admission to Art Institute on Thursday evenings. There are just too many activities going on in Chicago, and I wish I had more time to attend more of them.
One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was... how conveniently it is located. I love the Lincoln Park campus with its space and the greens within walking distance. It is wonderful to be able to visit the monkeys in the Lincoln Park Zoo and go to hear a concert at Chicago Symphony Center downtown with travel time less than 30 minutes.
The DePaul University School of Music appealed to me as a student and as a musician because... In addition to the friendly environment and my wonderful piano teacher, DePaul’s location in Chicago is very appealing to me. As a student, going to great concerts and recitals given by leading musicians from over the world stimulates my imagination. As a musician, the School of Music provides opportunities to participate in local events and perform in venues such as Chicago Symphony Center and Preston Bradley Hall at Chicago Cultural Center.
The benefits of attending an urban university when it comes to performance are... There are so many places to perform in Chicago. The great thing about the audience in Chicago is that they are receptive and open-minded. I was always greeted after concerts and it is great to hear their feedback and know the performance moved them. There are venues such as Beldenstratford where it is more like a salon setting, very intimate and also nice to communicate with audience in that way.
After graduation, I plan to... continue on the path I am on right now. I would love to get a doctoral degree and become more knowledgeable in my profession. Eventually, I wish I will get a full-time professor position at college level while still performing at the same time.
