My favorite thing to do on campus is… attend Vincentians in Action (VIA) meetings. All of the students that attend these meetings share a similar devotion to leadership and service and therefore it is an incredibly inspiring and supportive environment. VIA meetings allow for reflection on service work while also reflecting on ourselves. I have met really great people though these meetings and it has fostered a lot of growth in my own life.

The learning environment here at DePaul is… very nurturing and supportive. All of my classes are very small and interactive. DePaul professors have done a wonderful job encouraging learning and development throughout my experience thus far.

The class I most enjoyed here was… my Discover Chicago class. Our class was titled “Poverty Amidst Plenty” and we got to learn more about Chicago through the lens of poverty. We had the opportunity to travel all round Chicago, volunteer, and do research about poverty in the United States. I was able to learn a lot while making some great friends.

My favorite thing to do off campus is… going to a variety of different performances. There are tons of theater productions and concert always going on around Chicago so there is always something fun to do. I love theater so I have been able to attend countless shows and performances.

One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was… the values and traditions that the university subscribes to. DePaul strives to live by a Vincentian values system and the pride and community that is provided here at DePaul surprised me. There is definitely a strong sense of mission and values here.

The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is… being able to use an entire city as a resource. There are never any excuses for having nothing to do because there is always something going on. DePaul students have access to everything from great internships to great live concerts.

At DePaul, service learning is… the culmination of learning about yourself through engaging in service activities. Service learning is essential to development because a person learns most about themselves in difficult or compromised situations. Also, as per DePaul’s mission, service learning promotes a sense of social responsibility and community that is essential to development.

The Honors Program at DePaul… is exceptional. The classes are amongst the best I have taken at DePaul because they always challenge me to try my hardest and expand my knowledge base. The Honors Program also provides numerous extra opportunities for all honors students to participate in.

The best thing about DePaul is… the devotion to its mission and values. DePaul encourages all students to explore the mission through service learning and community service. The DePaul community nurtures a safe environment for everyone to be aware of and take part in social responsibility.

What I remember most about my first quarter at DePaul is… meeting a ton of new people and having a lot of fun exploring the city. All of the student leaders on campus were exceptionally welcoming and I felt at home from the first week that I was here. There were so many opportunities geared towards first year students that it was hard not to get involved.

My greatest success as a student here has been… getting chosen to be a part of the DePaul Community Service Association (DCSA) senior team. This year I have been a part of the DCSA community and they have been like a family to me. There is service for everyone within DCSA, so I am excited to grow and extend our group to include more individuals. I am so excited to be able to lead and facilitate this experience for more and more students in the future.

After graduation, I plan to… participate in service for at least a year and the go to graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in psychology.

The one thing I’d like to say to students considering DePaul… that DePaul has a great atmosphere and there is something for most everyone here. DePaul is a great place to explore and learn more about yourself.
