Area of Study:
Accountancy

I chose my major because… I have always been business oriented, so enrolling in the College of Commerce was an easy decision. I chose to focus on accounting because I wanted to learn a specific skill. What is attractive to me about accounting is the fact that I can directly apply everything I learn in the classroom to my profession.

My favorite thing to do on campus is… work out, either at the athletic center or at the Ray Meyer.

I decided to transfer to DePaul because… for two reasons: to play soccer, and for the involvement the business school has with the business community of Chicago. I knew I wanted to work in a major city so I figured it would be smart to enroll in a school that is located in the heart of such a vibrant business environment.

My favorite professor at DePaul is… Scott Kelly. I took his Business Ethics class last fall and he was outstanding. I honestly found his class to be enjoyable and interesting, and he is someone whom I respect. I would take a class of his again if given the chance.

When I have free time, I like to… go out with my friends. Lincoln Park has so much to offer. I really like to take advantage of my free time because it is such a rarity. I believe in playing hard and working hard, so when I have all my responsibilities taken care of, I want take advantage of that time.

One thing I didn’t know about DePaul before coming was… that people really respect the school as an academic institution. It is a great feeling to know I can write DePaul University on my résumé and I expect a great deal of respect from employers all over the country.

Here, the diversity of students, faculty and staff… is unreal. Before I enrolled at DePaul I thought diversity referred only to skin tone. Not only do we have a lot of ethnicities at DePaul, but also we have so many first and second year generations. Out of my three roommates, two are second generation Americans. My roommate Claude’s parents are from Columbia and my other roommate Julian’s parents are from Italy and Russia. I had no experience with such interesting backgrounds prior to coming to DePaul.

The greatest thing about going to school in Chicago is… the opportunities after graduation. We have such a huge advantage over most schools in the country when it comes to getting jobs. Internships and interviewing are so much more accessible due to our location.

My experience as a student-athlete at DePaul… has been outstanding. I have a great time with my team. We are a group of guys who aren’t afraid to do work, but we still have our fair share of good times. This year we are looking to do big things in the Big East Conference and make some noise on the national scene.

The best thing about DePaul is… what the school stands for. St. Vincent de Paul believed in giving opportunities to the less fortunate and that is exactly what DePaul does. The Vincentian message is one that speaks volumes and can honestly be felt among the community here at DePaul.

What I will remember most about Blue Demon athletics is… when Draelon Burns stole the ball with 20 seconds left out of Notre Dame’s backcourt and passed to a streaking Wilson “Dunk on Anyone” Chandler for a one point, last second victory at All-State Arena.

My greatest success as a student here has been… what I have accomplished outside of the classroom. Although I am extremely proud of my academic success, I get the most satisfaction from the professional networks that I have made while being at DePaul. I judge academic success by what and where it gets you, otherwise it is just numbers.

After graduation, I plan to… stay in Chicago and work in either the audit or consulting industry. I would also like to go back to school at some point and get my MBA. My lifetime goal, however, is to own my own company and to start a family.
