​The Bilingual Education (BE) minor provides a learning opportunity to all DePaul students interested in working with second language learners. Students gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of second language acquisition, as well as related educational theories and practices.

Students interested in this minor should consult home college advisors and secure permission from the Bilingual-Bicultural Education Program to enroll. 

Course Requirements

7 courses are required for the minor:

Minor in Bilingual Education with Bilingual Endorsement 

This option is only available to undergraduates in the College of Education pursuing ISBE Licensure. 

The minor with endorsement requires the above 7 courses PLUS 100 fieldwork hours (including registration in BBE 97) and a passing score on the Target Language Proficiency Test.

ISBE offers the Target Language Proficiency Test in the following languages:  Arabic, Assyrian, Bosnian, Burmese, Bulgarian, Cantonese, English, Filipino, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Lithuanian, Malayalam, Mandarin, Nepali, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Telugu, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese

Minor Bilingual with ESL and Bilingual Endorsement 

This option is only available to undergraduates in the College of Education pursuing ISBE Licensure.

The minor with both endorsements requires the above 7 courses PLUS BBE 326, 100 fieldwork hours (including registration in BBE 97), and a passing score on the Target Language Proficiency Test.

Note: Individuals interested in pursuing a minor in bilingual and a minor in ESL need to select the combined bilingual-ESL minor.  Individuals cannot earn a separate  minors for  both areas .​
