Ghana, Benin, Togo
Study Abroad
This three-week cross-college program allows students to explore African history, culture, spirituality and healing in several cities and villages. Students meet with community, political, educational and spiritual leaders; learn about indigenous spirituality; visit cultural sites such as the slave dungeons of the African holocaust, Kente weaving villages, the Central Market and museums; and hear lectures at the home of W.E.B. DuBois and various Ghanaian universities. Through travel to Togo and Benin, students will learn about the interrelationship among these three West African nations and how national divisions have been imposed on formerly interrelated groups.

Fez, Morocco
Study Abroad
In this intensive summer programs, students study the languages and societies of the Islamic World. Students in Morocco study either Modern Standard Arabic and/or Moroccan Arabic for six weeks at the Arabic Language Institute in Fez. Class size is kept low in this program to enable more individualized attention and increase opportunities for participation and practice in the classroom. Classes are based on language proficiencies and often include experiential learning opportunities and assignments outside of the classroom.

Marrakech, Morocco

Students in this three-week program take two coordinated courses in anthropology and English in this gateway nation between Europe and the “Orient.” The tour starts in Rabat, flavored by years of French colonialism and its current role as a cosmopolitan urban center. The imperial city of Marrakech features architecture and traditions influenced by its proximity to the Sahara. Fez, with its winding alleyways and vibrant markets, is closely identified as an important center of Islamic learning and civilization.

Study Abroad
This short-term study-abroad program brings together graduate students from Nursing, Public Services and Social Work for an international, collaborative experience that focuses on the interrelationship of health, social welfare and development and the specific work of educational institutions, cooperative programs and faith-based organizations to effect positive social change. Students in this program spend two weeks in Kenya visiting schools, religious missions, community cooperatives, relief agencies and governmental offices to gain an appreciation for the challenges and opportunities confronting Kenya and other countries of Africa.
