Petition to Major

Students are admitted to a specialization on the basis of a petition to major process, which occurs during the spring of the freshman or sophomore year. The petition to major process differs for each specialization, and students should contact the department chairs or area coordinators for more information. Students are not permitted to enroll in classes in the major until they have passed their petition to major. 

Course Requirements

  • Applied lessons
    • 24 additional credits of applied lessons (beyond the initial 24 credits) are required

Concentration Requirements

Additional requirements are determined by the specific performance track that students choose.   Students must also complete the requirements from one of the following concentrations: Brass; Guitar; Percussion; Piano; String Bass; Violin, Viola, Cello; Voice; Woodwinds.​

APM 305


A full 60 minute, public recital performance of solo and/or chamber repertoire to be completed in the Senior year. This recital is required as partial fulfillment of the degree of Bachelor of Music in Performance. Students must be registered for applied lessons during the quarter the recital is presented.
A petition to major is a prerequisite for this class.
