The Modern Language Option (MLO) is available to any student in the Liberal Studies Program of any College major who studies a modern language beyond what is necessary to meet that College’s Modern Language Requirement (MLR). Students selecting the MLO may substitute up to two language courses for two Learning Domain requirements*. The MLO is applied according to the following combinations of Learning Domains: Philosophical Inquiry OR Religious Dimensions; Understanding the Past OR Social, Cultural, and Behavioral Inquiry; Arts and Literature OR Scientific Inquiry (cannot substitute for the Lab or Science as a Way of Knowing requirement.)

*MLO selections must be discussed with, and approved by, the student's academic advisor.
