In the Sports Management MBA concentration, you will learn the fundamentals of planning, organizing, directing and leading for sports organizations.  The program will prepare you for professional opportunities with sports businesses that include professional and collegiate athletics, fitness and racquet clubs, youth sports, hotels and resorts, as well as sports-related consumer businesses that include athletic apparel, sports drinks and nutrition.  It also is useful for managers who seek to apply sports coaching techniques to motivating employee performance.


In this concentration, you will:
  • Gain a real-world perspective of sports management from faculty who are well-connected to the industry and from sports management executives who regularly guest lecture and host behind-the-scenes management tours of Chicago professional sports organizations and sports-related businesses.
  • Examine the major management, technological and legal issues facing sport managers in a variety of organizational settings.
  • Learn the principles of sports management through the lens of organizational theory and behavior.

Career Outlook

This MBA concentration will put you on the career track for positions that include sports agent, sports marketing manager, university athletic director, community relations manager, youth program director and recreation director.
