Benefits of the BE-ESL Minor

Students interested in both the ESL and Bilingual Education (BE) minor only have to take an additional course (the combined minor covers required coursework for both the ESL and Bilingual Education Endorsements for those seeking a teaching certification). The combined minor is open to all DePaul students interested in teaching in bilingual programs and ESL programs in PK-12 schools; teaching abroad; teaching in international schools; adult students; and working in centers, agencies and organizations that provide services to multilingual communities in the US and abroad.

The combined minor offers a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of second language acquisition, bilingualism and biliteracy, cross-cultural dimensions, teaching and assessment practices, and the history, theory, research, and policy of ESL and bilingual education. Students interested in this minor should consult home college advisors to enroll.

Note: IL State Bilingual Education Endorsement requires proficiency in a language other than English.
