The English as a Second Language (ESL) minor is open to all DePaul students interested in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in various settings: PK-12 schools (this minor covers all required courses for the IL state Bilingual Education Endorsement for those seeking teaching certification);teaching abroad; teaching in international ​schools; teaching adult students in community colleges or social service centers; and working in other agencies and organizations that provide services to multilingual communities in the US and abroad.

The minor offers a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of second language acquisition, cross-cultural dimensions, teaching and assessment practices, and the theory, research, and policy of ESL. Students interested in this minor should consult home college advisors to enroll.

Note: Does not require proficiency in another language beyond English.
