The Jazz Studies Program provides performance opportunities and rigorous coursework that prepare students for successful careers as professional musicians, composers, arrangers, and educators. The curriculum fosters creative artistry while cultivating the comprehensive skill set required of a versatile, well-rounded musician.

Students develop their craft through private instruction, participation in large and small ensembles, and focused study in jazz improvisation, theory, ear training, arranging and composition, jazz history, pedagogy, and related areas.

Faculty in the Jazz Studies Program are dedicated educators and internationally recognized performers, composers, and arrangers who are actively engaged in Chicago’s vibrant jazz community and beyond. Student ensembles and performers have earned numerous awards and critical acclaim for their performances and compositions. Alumni of the program are active worldwide as performers, recording artists, composers, and educators.
