Your journey to The Theatre School at DePaul University begins with submitting an application to DePaul University and selecting The Theatre School, along with your major – Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre or one of our 14 Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs. Additional requirements such as a prescreen, audition/interview, or portfolio, may apply. Deadlines vary by program, so early preparation is encouraged.

Located on the Lincoln Park Campus, The Theatre School is our artistic home at 2350 N. Racine Avenue. The Theatre School Admissions Office offers a range of in-person and virtual events—both individual and group—for prospective theatre students, families, and school groups. Join us for an in-depth tour of our building and discover the spaces where students train, create, and perform. Advance registration is required.

Kindle a career in lighting design

The Theatre School’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Lighting Design gives you the opportunity to develop your artistic voice while gaining the technical and practical experience needed to succeed as a professional lighting designer. In this program, you will learn how to visualize, create, and implement lighting designs that support storytelling and performance.

You will work closely with directors, dramaturgs, other designers, technicians, and professional production staff as you bring your design concepts to life through hands-on production work. Our Lighting Design program prepares you to pursue careers across the entertainment industry, including regional theatre, Broadway, touring productions, opera, film and television, concerts, and special events.

As a student, you will learn from experienced faculty and build the skills needed to succeed in a wide range of professional lighting design and entertainment environments
