Your journey to The Theatre School at DePaul University begins with submitting an application to DePaul University and selecting The Theatre School along with one of our 15 Bachelor of Fine Arts programs. Applicants then complete program-specific requirements, including additional materials and an audition or interview. Deadlines vary by program, so we encourage early preparation.

Located on the Lincoln Park Campus, The Theatre School is our artistic home at 2350 N. Racine Avenue. The Theatre School Admissions Office offers a range of in-person and virtual events—both individual and group—for prospective theatre students, families, and school groups. Join us for an in-depth tour of our building and discover the spaces where students train, create, and perform. Advance registration is required.
Develop your voice as a playwright
The Theatre School’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Playwriting helps students explore and identify their voice and unique process of working as a writer in a variety of circumstances. The four-year curriculum provides students with the primary tools of dramatic writing and the space and opportunity to use them through classroom and workshop experiences.
Students learn from a distinguished and award-winning faculty of professional playwrights, dramaturgs, directors, and arts writers both in the classroom and through individual guidance and advising. Students receive formal and informal feedback from faculty through continual readings and workshops of their work.
