Admission Requirements

​​The DePaul MPH Program admits students once per year in the fall quarter using SOPHAS.

The priority application deadline annually is March 1. The final deadline annually is June 15. International applicants needing an F-1 visa should reach out to CSHgrad@depaul.edu regarding the final deadline to apply.

The following are required for students applying to the program:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required for admission.
  • A completed online application. For the MPH, we will only accept applications via SOPHAS.
  • Official transcripts from all previous college coursework. A GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) is recommended, but not required, for admission.
  • Please submit in ONE document the responses to ALL the following personal statement prompts. Keep the response to each prompt around 2-pages double spaced. Please do not submit a document with more than 8-10 pages.
    1. What previous experiences have led to your interest in public health? (Please limit to approximately 500-750 words).
    2. What is your reason for choosing DePaul University to pursue your public health degree? (Please limit to approximately 500-750 words).
    3. What are your reasons for choosing the social epidemiology concentration? (Please limit to approximately 500-750 words).
    4. Describe how this degree will help you career/professional goals. (Please limit to approximately 500-750 words).
    5. If your cumulative undergraduate GPA is below a 3.0 and/or your academic record does NOT accurately reflect your capabilities, please provide a brief statement describing any circumstances which may have led to your GPA and how you plan to be successful in an academically rigorous graduate-level program. Present any information that may assist the admissions committee in interpreting and evaluating your academic history or credentials. (Please limit to approximately 250-500 words).
  • Two letters of recommendation: one from a person who can speak to the applicant’s academic performance and one who can speak to the applicant’s ability to work with diverse communities and hold a commitment to social justice. Note: SOPHAS requires you to request a minimum of 3 references but we only require two to review an application.
  • Current résumé or curriculum vitae.
  • Applicants may be asked to provide additional supplemental materials or to interview should the admissions committee require it.

International applicants 

All students educated outside of the United States must submit proof of their English proficiency in order to be reviewed for admission, regardless of language of instruction or native language. Students holding a bachelor's, master's, or PhD from a regionally-accredited United States institution will have the English proficiency requirement waived upon receipt of their official U.S. transcripts.

To be considered English language proficient, the Master of Public Health program requires a score of at least 96 on the iBT TOEFL, 7.0 on the IELTS, or 125 on the DET.

How to Apply 

For the MPH: Social Epidemiology, MPH: Community Health Practice, and MPH/MBA dual degree, online applications must be submitted via SOPHAS. *Combined degree applicants (current DePaul undergraduate students) and those applying for the graduate Global Health Certificate can apply here.

SOPHAS is the online, centralized application service for public health graduate programs nationwide. Visit the SOPHAS Applicant Help Center for detailed application instructions. There is no supplemental application through DePaul's website- you can only apply via SOPHAS.*

SOPHAS opens in late-August annually to apply for the following fall.

Only applications verified in SOPHAS will be reviewed.
