DePaul University’s Bachelor of Arts in PreK-12 Visual Art Education is your key to making a difference as an art educator. This program equips you to inspire creativity in PreK-12 students across urban and suburban settings, from public and private schools to arts-focused programs. Supported by the James P. Duignan Endowed Chair for Arts Education, our Visual Art Education program ensures a lasting impact on the next generation of educators and artists.

From day one, you’ll get real-world exposure to what it’s like to be an art educator. You’ll participate in field experiences and student teaching, giving you the chance to observe classrooms, lead lessons, and grow into your role as an educator and artist. These school-based clinical hours are embedded into your coursework, ensuring a seamless connection between theory and practice.

You’ll also work with Stockyard Institute, a Chicago-based arts project that teams up with local artists, educators, university students, alumni, activists and community members to spark creative engagement throughout the city. Plus, our close connection with the DePaul Art Museum takes your experience to the next level with the Learning Studio Initiative, where students get hands-on experience with museum-based educational programs, curriculum design and community outreach.

By completing this program, you’ll qualify for the Illinois Professional Educator License with an endorsement in PreK-12 Visual Art. This means you’ll graduate ready to teach visual arts across Illinois—and beyond.
