Alan Salzenstein is a full professor at DePaul University where he serves as director of the Performing Arts Management programs in the School of Music and the MFA/Arts Leadership program in The Theatre School, also serving as faculty in the Theatre Management program. He is past president of the international academic organization, Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE), as well as an international board advisor with ENCATC, the European Network on Cultural Management and Policy, where he also serves as the co-editor-in-chief of the ENCATC Scholar, an online publication focusing on educational tools for cultural management and policy. Salzenstein has held various executive director positions for a wide array of arts organizations over the past forty years. In addition to a long history of theatrical producing in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, he has devised and overseen many special events and maintains an active consulting service for artists and arts organizations. He is a frequent invited speaker on topics related to arts administration, cultural management, and allied fields, having presented frequently across North America, Europe and Asia. Salzenstein is on the editorial board of American Journal of Arts Management, board chair of Classical Kids Music Education, and was a longtime board member and officer of the League of Chicago Theatres, Joseph Jefferson Awards Committee, among other organizations. Salzenstein is also an attorney, focusing on issues relating to the performing arts industry.
