BIO

Carrie Ruckel is a multimedia producer, educator, and artist with over fifteen years of experience in film, television, and digital media production, as well as extensive experience in student training and mentorship in higher education. Her teaching emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning that integrates technical skill development with critical and creative approaches to media-making.

Ruckel held leadership roles at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), serving as Multimedia Content Production Manager and Student Broadcast and Training Manager within Academic Media, Production and Training. She supervised and trained student teams across all stages of production while developing instructional materials, certification programs, and workshops on advanced equipment and workflows. Her work fostered collaborative learning environments that prepared students for careers in film, television, and emerging media.

Previously, Ruckel spent over a decade at Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV) as Associate Producer and Director for the talk show Chicago Newsroom. Her experience spans non-scripted television, live broadcast, webcasting, and arts documentation, with roles including director, producer, camera operator, cinematographer, and editor.

Her background in fine arts and experimental filmmaking informs her interdisciplinary approach. She remains active as an artist and organizer, engaging feminist and social justice themes. Ruckel holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a BFA from SAIC.
