Biography

Emily Jurgens is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at DePaul University and an award-winning instructor recognized by the Illinois CPA Society as an Outstanding Educator. She earned both her bachelor’s degree with honors and her master’s degree in Accounting from Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business, attending on a full Division I rowing scholarship.

Emily began her career in KPMG’s Chicago office, specializing in audits of banks and financial services institutions and earning the KPMG Chairman’s Award for volunteerism. She later served as Controller for an international food testing company based in Lyon, France, where she oversaw tax, audit, and financial statement reporting processes. Most recently, she taught Financial and Managerial Accounting as an Assistant Professor at the City Colleges of Chicago, where she was nominated to lead an AI classroom integration initiative and contributed extensively to curriculum development.

Outside the classroom, Emily is actively involved in her community and serves on the board of the Lakewood Balmoral Residents’ Council. She lives in Chicago with her husband and their three active boys.
