Bio
James J. "Jimm" Chengary joined DePaul University’s Kellstadt School of Business in 2001. Over the past 25 years, on and off due to professional and family priorities, he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in management, finance, and marketing, drawing on extensive industry experience to connect business theory with real-world decision-making. He also developed and launched Maximizing Shareholder Value (FIN 798), a graduate-level course that was focused on the strategic and financial drivers of enterprise value. His first scheduled class was at DePaul's Naperville campus on the evening of September 11, 2001 - a beginning to a longstanding commitment to DePaul student development.
Chengary began his professional career in management consulting while completing his senior year at DePaul. After earning his MBA, he spent 12 years with AT&T Wireless in progressively responsible sales, operations, and marketing roles before transitioning from telecommunications to healthcare.
Today, Chengary leads U.S. value-based healthcare initiatives for bioMérieux, a global in vitro diagnostics company headquartered in Lyon, France. Previously, he led point-of-care diagnostics marketing at BD and served as Senior Director of Global Strategic Marketing and Product Management at MedTech start-up Visby Medical. Earlier, at Abbott Molecular, he drove growth across infectious disease and oncology franchises.
Throughout his professional career, Chengary has built a record of turning strategy into measurable results. His achievements in innovation, commercialization, business growth, and public health have earned him multiple President's Club honors. As an educator, he brings those experiences to the classroom to help students understand how disciplined analysis, cross-functional leadership, and customer-focused innovation create enduring enterprise value.
