Maria Diaz Campo
BIO
Maria Paula Diaz Campo is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at DePaul University. She holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Florida International University (FIU) and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Business Analytics, both from FIU.
Her research focuses on interface design for vulnerable and marginalized groups, exploring how AI systems influence user behavior, decision-making, and access. Currently, she examines how generative AI creates new dark patterns that unfairly impact marginalized users, how automation leads to complacency in human choices, and how digital novices navigate mobile interfaces, all with an eye toward inclusive design. She also looks into the adoption of generative AI in healthcare and how AI personality features influence user actions. Her work connects theory and practice, providing insights to help organizations develop more equitable, resilient, and trustworthy technology. Her research has appeared in JMIR Human Factors and Amplify (formerly Cutter Business Technology Journal), and she has presented at major conferences such as AMCIS, where her work ranked in the Top 25% of papers.
Maria teaches Introduction to Information Systems and Analysis and Design Techniques at DePaul. She also serves as a reviewer for multiple journals and conferences in the Information Systems discipline.
