BIO

Marta Ascherio is an Assistant Professor of Sociology. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on immigration and the criminal legal system and introduction to social statistics. In her main areas of research, Ascherio uses administrative records and survey data to dig deep into the criminological consequences of immigration and immigration policies, and to better understand when and under what circumstances people report violence to the police. In addition, she is interested in the social and political construction of racial and ethnic identity.

Ascherio has a BA in Political Science and an MSc in Community Development and Applied Economics from the University of Vermont. She earned a PhD in Sociology from University of Texas at Austin in 2022. Prior to working at DePaul, she spent four years as an Assistant Professor at Illinois State University.
