BIO

Professor Peter Povilonis teaches and researches in the areas of criminal law, criminal procedure and evidence. He joins the faculty after serving as an assistant state’s attorney in Baltimore, Maryland, where he prosecuted illegal firearm possession, assault and other misdemeanors. Before that, Professor Povilonis practiced at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, DC, where he defended clients in SEC and DOJ criminal investigations. He also clerked for the Honorable Lawrence E. Kahn of the Northern District of New York. 

Professor Povilonis’ research currently focuses on hung juries and their effects on subsequent trials. His work has been published in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law and North Carolina Law Review (forthcoming).
