Scholarship

Before joining the Dean's Office in Liberal Arts and Social Sciences in 2019, Vandenberg pursued an extensive publishing agenda in writing studies.  His work includes three co-edited volumes, including Keywords in Writing Studies, co-edited with Paul Heilker (2015).  His single- and co-authored work has appeared in leading venues for writing scholars, including College Composition and Communication (CCC), College English, Composition Studies, JAC: A Journal of Composition Theory, JBC (Journal of Business Communication), Enculturation, The Writing Instructor, Writing Center Theory, The Journal of Scholarly Publishing, and elsewhere.  For seven years he edited the journal Composition Studies, and he has given more than 60 invited and peer reviewed papers at regional, national, and international conferences.  

Selected Professional Activities

Vandenberg has served one term on the Executive Committee of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), and on more than a dozen committees, task forces, and working groups for CCCC, the Council of Writing Program Administrators, the Council of Editors of Learned Journals, and the National Council of Teachers of English.

DePaul University Service

In 2007, Vandenberg was elected chair of the newly founded department of Writing, Rhetoric, & Discourse, a position he held until 2019. He has been Faculty Chair of the Academic Integrity Board; Chair of the Faculty Council Handbook Committee; and a member of Teaching, Learning, and Technology, the Vision 2012 Strategic Planning Team, and numerous other university, college, and department committees.
