Russell Ivy

Dr. Russell Ivy became Provost and Senior Vice President July 1, 2026. Prior to coming to DePaul, Ivy served over 30 years at Florida Atlantic University as a tenured faculty member in the Department of Geosciences and in various administrative roles including Department Chair, Interim Dean of the College of Science, Vice Provost and Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs during a critical transitional period for the institution.
During Russ' time in the Provost's Office at Florida Atlantic, he served as part of a team that guided the institution in making significant advances in student success yielding recognition for the university through several national awards such as the APLU Degree Completion Award in 2022 and the ACE Fidelity Institutional Transformation Award in 2024. During his time as Interim Provost, FAU ranked in the Top 40 for Social Mobility by U.S. News and World Report and Top 50 for Social Mobility by Washington Monthly. In 2025, Washington Monthly also included Florida Atlantic in the Top 25 Best in Class and Top 40 best Colleges for your Tuition and Tax Dollars. FAU was also named an Opportunity College and University by Carnegie, recognized as an institution that serves as a model for studying how campuses can foster student success.
Russ led the charge in key areas of the FAU strategic plan and university mission, specifically related to growth in online education, globalization of the campus and student body, innovative academic program development, and successful university accreditation reaffirmations. His body of work with international education garnered him the APLU Michael P. Malone International Leadership Award for Impact in 2025.
Ivy also was a key leader at FAU with diversity initiatives for both faculty and students. He was the PI on an NSF ADVANCE IT Catalyst grant aimed at successful recruitment and retention of women and under-represented minority faculty, particularly in the STEM areas, and a co-PI on the follow-up of that grant, the NSF ADVANCE Adaptation Award. To support successful recruitment, retention and degree completion of underrepresented students, Russ served as a co-PI on an NSF GEOPATHS grant supporting Hispanic students in the geosciences, and as the project lead on a Florida Board of Governors funded grant connecting Hispanic students from state colleges into FAU engineering programs as part of a larger 2+2 initiative in the state of Florida.
Dr. Ivy earned his B.A. and M.A. in Geography from the University of Missouri, and his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Florida.
