BIO

Sarah DeAngelo is a clinical faculty member in Special Education who completed their PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Sarah began their career as a special educator supporting students with significant and multiple disabilities in early childhood and secondary settings.

As a teacher educator and disabled self-advocate, Sarah’s work is centered on the central refrain of the disability rights movement – “Nothing about us without us!” Sarah’s teaching, service, and scholarship is informed and guided by critical disability studies, DisCrit (Disability Studies and Critical Race Theory), and the neurodiversity paradigm. This lens fuels their commitment to preparing future special educators to effectively support students with disabilities in complex and ableist educational systems, while simultaneously critiquing the systemic inequities, advocating for practices that center the rights and dignity of students with disabilities.
