Shatabdi Choudhury brings more than twenty-five years of industry experience to the classroom. She is a Principal Data Scientist at UnitedHealth Group, where she works in healthcare payment integrity analytics at Optum, building and deploying machine learning systems that operate at the scale and complexity of one of the largest healthcare organizations in the world. Earlier in her career, she was an Advisory Software Engineer at IBM, where she contributed to analytics platforms including SPSS and Watson Analytics.

She is currently a PhD Candidate in Computer and Information Sciences at DePaul University, where her research focuses on machine learning and applied data science. She holds a Master of Science in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, and a Master of Technology from the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, India.

In the classroom, Shatabdi is committed to bridging theory and practice. She designs her courses around the kinds of problems data scientists actually face in industry — messy data, competing priorities, and communicating results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders — equipping students with the technical depth, structured thinking, and real-world perspective needed to succeed in modern data science roles.
