BIO

Rachel (“Shelly”) Rauvola, PhD is an Associate Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology at DePaul University. Her research applies metascientific principles to the study of work, motivation, identity, and health, considering not only phenomena themselves (e.g., in primary studies) but also the norms, cultures, and institutions that produce scientific knowledge. Shelly centers on the experiences of historically understudied, underrepresented, and underresourced populations, including the aging workforce, trauma-exposed workers, and workers from minoritized populations or with marginalized identities (e.g., workers with disabilities, women and gender minorities, nontraditional family structures). Shelly has been published in numerous academic outlets, including The Leadership Quarterly, the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Journal of Business and Psychology, and she is an Editorial Board member for both Psychology and Aging and Work, Aging and Retirement. Shelly has received research funding from the Australian Research Council, the Washington University Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, and other funding bodies. She teaches, advises, and mentors undergraduate and graduate students in psychology, leveraging ethical, evidence-based, and anti-oppressive frameworks to guide her work.
