Theresa Moen, PhD, CCC-SLP is an assistant professor in the Speech-Language Pathology Program at DePaul University. She earned her BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Spanish from Illinois State University. She obtained her MS in Speech-Language Pathology at Marquette University where she also completed the BIES (Bilingual English Spanish) specialization. After graduate school, she worked with predominantly Spanish-English emergent bilingual students in preschool-5th grade in Chicagoland public schools. She completed her PhD at Arizona State University in 2025 followed by a Postdoctoral fellowship year.
Dr. Moen's research focuses on improving the educational experiences of emergent bilingual students and enhancing the practices of the SLPs who serve them. Her interests include bilingual speech/language assessment and intervention, the intersection of English language learning and special education, and arts-based approaches to supporting student communication and participation. She is dedicated to fostering culturally responsive practices in future SLPs.
Dr. Moen is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD). In 2024, she was awarded the ASHA Distinguished Early Career Professional award.
