Biography

Yujong Hwang is a Professor & Ezerski Endowed Fellow and Director of MIS program in the School of Accountancy & MIS at DePaul University, Chicago. He is also a Coordinator of Business Technology course at the Driehaus College of Business. He received his PhD in business (MIS and accounting) from the University of South Carolina and was a Visiting Professor in the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He was an International Scholar at Kyung Hee University in South Korea for a decade. 


Hwang has published more than 95 refereed journal articles including Journal of MIS, European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, Decision Support Systems, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Transactions, and International Journal of Accounting Information Systems. He has received more than 11,000 Google Scholar citations with H-index of 47. He was listed in the Top 5 prominent authors in the field of “AI and digital financial inclusion" by the bibliometric analysis in 2000-2024. He was also listed in the Top 150 MIS scholars by the University of Arizona ranking and Top 1,000 computer science researchers by UCLA ranking. He was also listed in the Top 2% cited scientists in the world by Stanford University ranking. 


Hwang received the Spirit of Inquiry Award from DePaul University in 2025, and the College Summer Research Grant more than a dozen times. He also received the College Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award and the School Excellence in Research Award. He received the Competitive Research Grant and Quality of Instruction Council Grant at DePaul University. He was a Program Co-chair of the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) 2013 and Distinguished (Senior) Associate Editor of European Journal of Information Systems. He is an Association for Information Systems (AIS) Distinguished Member – Cum Laude and Associate Editor of Electronic Commerce Research & Applications.
