John Nigh
John O. Nigh, in addition to his distinguished accomplishments in the life insurance and financial services industry, is a steadfast believer in DePaul students and the transformative power of an education. His deep knowledge as an alumnus and current PhD candidate has made him a trusted advocate and invaluable resource for the College of Science and Health. In 2024 and 2025, he established two scholarships for students in pure mathematics, and most recently, he generously created the John O. Nigh Summer Scholars Program, and the John O. Nigh Lecture Series in Pure Mathematics, both launching in 2027. Together, these initiatives will raise the profile of mathematical sciences at DePaul and expand opportunities for the next generation of students.
John came to DePaul in 2021 after a long and successful career as an actuary in the financial services industry. During his time as a student, he has been an earnest and engaged member of the academic community. Since earning his degree in 2024, he has continued to give back by attending departmental and college events, supporting students at the STEM Research Showcase as a reviewer, and serving as a guest speaker for a summer actuarial science camp.
Alongside pursuing his doctoral degree in pure mathematics, John runs his own M&A advisory, reinsurance, and actuarial consulting firm. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and a former member of the SOA Board of Directors, where he contributed to the Risk, Finance, and Admissions Committees as well as the Board’s Cultivate Opportunities and Latin American Outreach Task Force. He is also a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, having previously served on its Risk Management Financial Reporting ERM Subcommittee, Life Capital Adequacy Subcommittee, and Risk Classification Committee.
John's professional achievements, philanthropic leadership, and unwavering dedication to DePaul students exemplify the values of leadership and service that define the College of Science and Health. His commitment to service ensures that future mathematicians and scientists will have the support, encouragement, and opportunities they need to thrive.
