DePaul’s School of Cinematic Arts has once again been named one of the best film schools in the United States in The Hollywood Reporter’s 2026 ranking of top programs.  

The recognition places DePaul alongside some of the most established film schools in the country and reaffirms its position as the only Midwest institution in the Top 10.  

"Being named a top 10 film school again is a testament to the vision and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students,” said Anuradha Rana, professor and director of the School of Cinematic Arts. “This recognition reflects the work happening every day in and out of the classroom, and I'm proud of what this community continues to build together.”  

The annual ranking highlights programs that prepare students to navigate a rapidly evolving film and television landscape, including advances in artificial intelligence, virtual production and emerging technologies.  

The Hollywood Reporter also noted the importance of financial assistance opportunities provided by SCA including scholarships, graduate assistantships, and grant programs as key drivers of student access and success.

One example is Project Bluelight, a long-running initiative that allows DePaul students to work on funded film projects with industry professionals integrated directly into the classroom and on set. Through the program, faculty receive production support and funding while students gain experience working in professional roles, preparing them for careers in film, animation, and visual effects. DePaul students recently completed a new film called the “The Lagoon” which was supported by the program.

The School of Cinematic Arts continues to build on this momentum through hands-on learning, industry access and alumni opportunities. Another example is the inaugural Alumni Vision Fund, launched in January 2026, which provides DePaul alumni with production resources to develop a proof-of-concept short film or trailer for a larger project, such as a feature film, documentary, or television series. The goal is to help DePaul alumni who are rising stars in film advance their projects toward financing or a production greenlight.  

DePaul’s students and alumni also continue to earn recognition for their work on screen and behind the scenes, contributing to films, series and independent projects that have premiered at major festivals and platforms.
