On Tuesday, December 3rd, SCPS professor Caroline Kisiel was a guest speaker at the 206th Anniversary of Illinois Statehood event.
The event was held in Springfield, IL and is sponsored by the Illinois Historical Society. It lasted the whole day, with morning speakers (including Kisiel) discussing the struggle against slavery in Illinois history, and speakers that focussed on Native American history.
The guest speaker for the day was none other than Illinois State Senator Doris Turner, who discussed design propositions and considerations for the new Illinois state flag.
