The Theatre School Spring Dance Concert

Theatre School dancers step into the spotlight

Energy, grace and poise take the stage at the first-ever TTS Dance Concert, showcasing the work of students pursuing a dance minor at The Theatre School.

The concert will consist of seven pieces, all performed by dance minors. The program includes solos, duets and group performances.

Many dances will feature live accompaniment from students in DePaul’s School of Music, including a mezzo-soprano, cellist, pianist and violinist, with one piece composed by a DePaul School of Music graduate student.

The dance minor was introduced at The Theatre School in 2023 in response to a growing number of students seeking more rigorous dance training. Dance minors take a variety of classes and can study styles including modern dance, ballet, African dance and improvisation/composition. The minor also offers opportunities to pursue electives such as dancing for film, music for dance, career exploration for dancers and choreography for performance.

Faculty member Lin Kahn oversees the program. In a 2025 interview with The DePaulia, Kahn said, “Our minor gives excellent technical training, creative growth and provides balance to any academic major.”

Classes are open to dancers of all experience levels. Beginners and experienced dancers work together to build a strong community and draw inspiration from each other to create compelling performances.

Students in the dance minor are eager to share their work beyond the classroom.

The TTS Dance Concert will be held in Studio 401 June 4–6 at 7:30 p.m. and June 7 at 2 p.m.
