What is a comprehensive fee?
A university comprehensive student fee is a consolidated fee that covers various non-academic services and programs, supporting student activities, well-being, and campus infrastructure, in addition to tuition.
Will this increase the cost to attend DePaul?
On average, this will be less than 1% change in the cost of attendance for students. The comprehensive fee will be included in the overall Cost of Attendance estimate used to determine financial aid eligibility, unlike certain non-academic fees in the past.
How much is the fee?
The fee amount is assessed based on part-time or full-time status, and type of degree (undergraduate, graduate or law). Full-time undergraduate students who don’t take summer classes will pay $900 annually. A fee schedule can be found on my.depaul.edu.

- Academic program fees, such as lab fees or teacher performance assessment fees.
Do I get access to anything new because of this fee?
The fee is a consolidation of the mandatory non-academic fees charged to students. The fee covers a wide range of services and programs that support student success and wellbeing. Membership to the Ray Meyer Recreation and Fitness Center is now included for all students.
Why do I have to pay this fee if I’m an online student?
The fee supports a wide range of services and programs, including technology services and infrastructure, campus maintenance and operations and library resources, career counseling and academic support services that enable and enrich online learning at DePaul.
Does my financial aid cover the fee?
Individual awards vary, but the fee is financial aid eligible and included in the cost of attendance calculation used to determine financial aid.
Why did DePaul change its fee structure?
DePaul is aligning with trends in higher education to simplify the fee structure and stabilize the support to student services. The comprehensive fee will be financial aid eligible, unlike some of the previous non-academic fees.
Do I pay the fee for only the quarters/semesters that I am enrolled in?
Yes. Students will be automatically billed the quarterly/semester amount for each quarter they enroll in credit-bearing classes.
What do students who (only) take summer classes pay?
The summer fee is $100 and is charged to all student regardless of classification (Full time, Part time, Undergraduate, Graduate, or Law).
How many credit hours counts as full-time?
For both undergraduate and graduate students, the comprehensive fee is assessed when students register for at least one credit-bearing class.
Undergraduate students enrolled for twelve or more credit hours are considered full-time. Graduate students enrolled for eight or more credit hours are considered full-time. Any student enrolled in fewer than full-time credit hours are considered part-time. Half-time students are considered part-time.
I am an employee/employee dependent, does my waiver pay the comprehensive fee?
No, the tuition waiver only covers your tuition cost. As an employee or employee dependent, you are responsible for paying the comprehensive fee. Find more information on tuition waivers on the Office of Human Resources page.
